High Planes Models 1/72 F4U-5N

High Planes Models is a small Australian Model kit company that makes limited run injection moulded kits of a few different subjects...

One of which is the F4U-5N Corsair... The F4U is one of my favourite Piston Engined fighters. It had a long service life initially as a fighter then a fighter bomber and finally as a ground attack aircraft.  The 5N was a dedicated Night Fighter that saw service in the Korean war... Italeri have a kit but like a lot of Italeri stuff it's a bit inaccurate. The Highplanes kit is regarded as being correct but is not a straightforward build...

Some limited run plastic bits and some white metal parts. I added to this by buying a cheap Revell copy of the Italeri kit and using this for some parts...


Building it actually was not too hard the kit plastic fits very well and within a week or so we had this...

The Blue Plastic are bits from the Revell kit...

Which after some paint looked like this....

Here is the finished model....

The model was painted in a mix of 'scale black' which is black and Tamiya red brown mixed.... Chipping was done with some silver paint and a small piece of foam.. I added the cowl fastners with a silver artists pencil... Exhaust staining is Tamiya Buff Enamel misted on...

I borrowed the HVAR's from a P47N kit.

I enjoyed the build which was a challenge but a good one..
